This motorcycle circular route covers 1000 km in 4-days riding. The landscape is varied and dramatic including granite mountains, sand dunes and and rolling steppe. It is remote and you may ride for hours without meeting people or other vehicles. Most of the population in the countryside still live a nomadic or semi-nomadic existence, moving frequently with their herds of animals.
The trail is 80% off-road, following rough jeep tracks most of the way, usually hard pack or loose gravel with some rock and sand. One section is on the new asphalt road linking Ulaanbaatar to the Gobi Desert. Accommodation will be at traditional 'GER' Camps with restaurant and shower facilities.
The places you will see along the way:
Middle Gobi, "Dundgov" is one of the 21 provinces of Mongolia. It has a population density of 0.5 people per sq. km and is located north of the Gobi. The landscape is of semi-arid steppe & low hills. The main industries are animal husbandry & livestock products such as wool and cashmere.
On the second day we ride through this area of dramatic and unusual granite rock formations in Middle Gobi province. The highest mountain in the group is 1751 meters and there are several rocky passes which require some technical skill by the motorcycle riders and vehicle drivers alike.
Ongii Hiid, a once large Buddhist Monastery destroyed in the 1930s lies in the hills on the edge of a bend in the Ongi river. It is a quiet and spiritual place; one can imagine the original busy monasteries one either side of the river. Some of the temples and stupas are being restored.

This itinerary is suitable for experienced riders with some off-road experience
Arrive in 'Ulaanbaatar' and go to hotel. Afternoon or evening meet the tour leader and rest of group. The pre-tour meeting is about the day by day itinerary and safety issues. Overnight in hotel.
Make an early start to get out of "Ulaanbaatar" city and onto the road leading south to the Gobi. The road is black-topped for a while, then soon becomes a rough jeep track as it crosses the green rolling hills of Tuv (“Central”) Province. Ride on to 'Baga Gazar', a mountain of unusual granite rocks which are home to ibex, 'Marmots', steppe fox and plenty of 'Birds' of prey. Overnight 'Ger' camp.
Ride through "Mandalgov", the capital town of Dundgov Province and continue across the open rolling hills and steppe of 'Middle Gobi' to the rocky cliffs beside the "Ongii" river where the 'Ger Camp' is located. Overnight 'Ger' camp.
Ride northwards along the rough gravel tracks of "Dundgov". Pass by 'Zorgol Khairkhan', a dramatic granite mountain with bizarre rock formations jutting out against the skyline. Our last night is spent not far from "Bayanunjuul" village at "Uvur Burd". Overnight 'Ger' camp at 'Uvur Burd Els'.
As we return to Ulaanbaatar, the landscape becomes gradually greener and more mountainous. Even close to the city people still live the 'Traditional Lifestyle' but there are more horses and less camels than we encountered in the Gobi. We expect to arrive at around midday. 'Overnight in hotel'.
Departure.
